Quick Heart Attack Test - 5/13/2008
by Robin Miller, MD MHS

There is a potential, new, quick test to find out if you are having a heart attack

All you have to do is spit! Right now we diagnose a heart attack based on clinical symptoms, the EKG and blood tests. However, there is another test that is in the trial phase. It is a spit test. The patient spits into a tube and the saliva is taken and placed on a nano-chip on what looks like a credit card. The card is placed in an analyzer and can tell whether a heart attack is happening in about 15 minutes. The sooner a heart attack is diagnosed, the faster the treatment and the ability for doctors to save the heart muscle. The best part is that it doesn't require any needles.
