How to deal with bad breath - 5/6/2008
by Robin Miller, MD MHS

What causes bad breath and what can you do about it?

A recent study of bad breath also known as halitosis found that those with the worst breath according to a special halitosis meter had bacteria that is normally found in feces. It is called S. moorei. Everyone with this bacterium had gum disease. More men had it than women. Interestingly, most of the women who thought they had bad breath really didnt according to the meter. Bad breath can be a sign of underlying disease from the gut or lungs. So, if it persists it really needs to be checked out. To treat it, make sure you brush your teeth, get a tongue scraper and use it and see your dentist. Drinking green tea may also help with this problem.
